Thirteen-Year-Old Entrepreneur Achieves Academic Success While Helping Others Succeed

Like thousands of other students across the country Azaan Maqbool received his GCSE results today.
His academic record of achievement, however, sets him apart from the majority. He took GCSE Maths at age 10 achieving the highest grade. At eleven he managed the same with GCSE Physics.
This year he sat his Further Maths GCSE at age thirteen and achieved an A*, which he is delighted with.
As well as full time attendance at school, Azaan studies independently, taking additional subjects which interest him. This is mostly Maths and Science, but he has also chosen to study Mandarin, and plans to do his GCSE in this subject next year. However, life is about more than study; he also takes part in extra-curricular activities, and last year he raised nearly £3000 for Lepra, a charity which helps those with leprosy.
“Being able to find a tutor I like who will push me to my best has been really important to me,” Azaan explained. In fact, the importance of finding the right tutor has led to another achievement. Following his early experience studying for GCSE Maths during Covid lockdowns, Azaan came up with the idea of Sprout9.net – an EdTech platform to connect students with affordable tutors around the world.
Azaan realised that he had been lucky to be able to keep up, but even extend, his academic studies at a time when many students were falling behind and finding study difficult. He knew of families who could not afford the cost of local tutors, or struggled with the logistics of transporting their children to additional classes.
From his personal experience he knew there were excellent teachers who offer services at flexible times and reasonable costs because they work remotely. He wanted other students to have the opportunity to catch up and to experience fresh challenges. So Sprout9.net was born.
Azaan received help to build the platform, but unsurprisingly, he also set himself the challenge of learning to code so he could be hands-on too.
Since its launch the platform has conducted more than 500 lessons, helping 100s of students achieve their academic goals. Alongside Azaan, other students who use Sprout9 tutors have achieved exam success this year, including at least two with top grades in science subjects and several who have achieved two to three grades above their predictions across a range of different subjects.
Now Azaan is looking to scale up the platform and is actively seeking investment to be able to help more students achieve academic success.
Azaan’s consistent hard work and determination prove it is possible to achieve significant milestones multiple times. He is proof that self-belief and perseverance make anything possible.
While his precocious achievements serve as an inspiration to others, Azaan’s journey is also a reflection of his commitment to help others succeed, with a vision for expanding his impact even further. A combination of academic excellence, entrepreneurial drive, and the desire to help others is a rare combination, especially in someone so young, and should be celebrated.
