Oldham Coliseum Theatre continues its programme of theatre, performance and cultural activity, including the return of Khushi, the family friendly festival aimed at people from all backgrounds, which is taking over Oldham Library on Saturday 3 August. As well as live performance, the annual event showcasing work made by Oldham’s South Asian communities will include music, exhibitions, writing and beatboxing workshops, and much more.
Oldham Coliseum Theatre has commissioned three artists to co-create brand new work for this year’s programme: Poet Nasima Bee has been working with Werneth CHAI; actor and facilitator Perveen Hussain has been working with West Oldham CHAI and the Indian Association; and folk arts and craft visual artist Maryam Hussain has been working with Yuvanis Foundation and a group from Greenhill Community Sports and Recreation Club.
Julia Turpin, interim CEO at Oldham Coliseum Theatre, says: “We’re delighted to be able to continue bringing a range of theatre and other cultural activities for people living in Oldham. Khushi is all about happiness and fun, with something for everyone, from performance to music to games. There’s other new work to enjoy as part of our summer programme, plus opportunities to come together with other Oldhamers to discuss what arts and culture mean to you, as individuals and communities.”
The Khushi Festival is presented in partnership with the Women’s Chai Project (Care, Help and Inspire) and, along with other Oldham Coliseum Theatre programme activities being presented this summer, is supported by Arts Council England and Oldham Council. All events are free, but booking for some is recommended.
