Mill Gate Shopping Centre is proud to announce its collaboration with Recycle for Greater Manchester (R4GM) in supporting the ‘Cotton On’ campaign, an initiative dedicated to promoting textile recycling and sustainability across the region.
This partnership reflects Mill Gate’s ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility and community engagement.
The ‘Cotton On’ campaign seeks to address the significant issue of textile waste in Greater Manchester, where thousands of tonnes of clothing are discarded annually.
In the 2023/24 period alone, approximately 16,700 tonnes of textiles were disposed of in general waste bins.
To combat this, R4GM encourages residents to recycle their unwanted or damaged clothing, highlighting that even items deemed unwearable can be repurposed into new products such as animal bedding, carpet underlay, and car seats.
Residents can contribute to the ‘Cotton On’ campaign by bringing their unwanted textiles to designated clothing banks located at all 20 recycling centres across Greater Manchester, as well as in supermarket car parks and select clothing stores.
It’s important to ensure that all items are dry before depositing them. To find the nearest recycling centre, residents can use the Recycling Locator tool available on R4GM’s website.
By supporting the ‘Cotton On’ campaign, Mill Gate Shopping Centre aims to facilitate convenient recycling options for the community, fostering a culture of sustainability and environmental stewardship.
This initiative aligns with Mill Gate’s broader ‘Pass the Positivity’ campaign, which focuses on creating positive impacts within the local community.
Mill Gate Shopping Centre invites all visitors and community members to join in this vital initiative, reinforcing our collective commitment to a greener future.
Located in the heart of Bury, Mill Gate Shopping Centre offers a wide variety of shops, services, and dining options. It continues to be a central hub for the community, hosting events and initiatives that engage and support residents.
