Ford Capri Reimagined as Electric SUV

Ford has reintroduced the iconic Capri as an all-electric coupe-SUV, aimed to rival the Volkswagen ID.5 and Skoda Enyaq Coupe. This new Capri, built on the MEB platform used by the Ford Explorer and several VW models, marks a significant departure from the classic low-slung, two-door sports car of the 1960s and 70s.
The new Capri offers a choice of powertrains, including a single-motor Extended Range RWD (282bhp) and a dual-motor Extended Range AWD (335bhp). The RWD model accelerates from 0-62mph in 6.3 seconds, while the AWD version does so in 5.4 seconds. A Standard Range model with a 52kWh battery and a 168bhp motor, offering around 250 miles on a single charge, will join the lineup next year.
The Extended Range models feature 77kWh and 79kWh batteries, providing ranges of up to 390 miles and 348 miles, respectively. The Capri can charge from 10-80% in approximately 26-28 minutes, depending on the battery size.
Visually, the Capri combines elements from the Explorer with distinctive features such as a sloping roofline and lower suspension. The interior boasts a 14.6-inch adjustable touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated and massaging front seats, and a spacious boot with 572 litres of storage.
Prices for the new Capri start at £42,075 for the Standard Range, £48,075 for the Extended Range RWD, and £56,175 for the Extended Range AWD. The car is available in two trims: Capri and Capri Premium, with the latter offering additional luxury features like matrix-LED lights, a panoramic roof, and leather upholstery.
The new Capri’s design and electric powertrain have stirred mixed reactions, especially in the UK, where the original Capri holds a nostalgic appeal. Ford’s decision to revive the nameplate as an electric SUV underscores the brand’s commitment to blending heritage with modern innovation.
