Competition success for Farzana

A student from Blackburn has scooped first prize in a prestigious competition – which has led to her winning her first experience of a design studio.

Farzana Ali, 21, a current student studying BA (Hons) Graphic Communication at the University Centre at Blackburn College has won first prize in Display Wizard’s student graphic design competition.

The competition had a huge number of quality entrants from universities and colleges around the country.

As the winner of the competition, Farzana receives a number of prizes including £500 and a Wacom Intuous Pro tablet as well as a graphic design internship with Display Wizard.

The competition asked students to propose two exhibition stand designs for their university/college which showcased the best cultural/social aspects of their course.

The exhibition stands were evaluated on how consistent their branding is, their appeal to new students and consideration of the stand dimensions in the design proposal.

Farzana, who is currently undertaking her placement at Display Wizard said:

“This is my first experience of a design studio environment. I’m really glad I entered the competition. So far this week I have created some social media visuals, created some e-mail campaigns and done some photoshop work.”

“Whilst I have done work-experience before, it was in a veterinary surgery – this is my first experience of work-experience in a field I want to work in.”

“I’m currently coming to the end of the second year of my degree so I’ll return in September with additional work experience under my belt.”

Sally Hiscutt, Director of Display Wizard, said of Farzana’s design,

“This design was very imaginative and well-designed. Farzana has clearly thought deeply about the brief which is great to see.”

“To receive an award in this competition is a very big achievement considering the number and quality of entrants we received. We are hopeful this competition will help the students when pursuing their future career.”
